USA: Blacklisting remains a priority to fight corruption in North Macedonia

"The US is serious about fighting corruption in Macedonia. Blacklisting remains a priority as part of the fight against corruption."

This was stated by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alexander Kasanov after his meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Christian Mitkoski, reports BGNES.

Kasanov, however, did not mention which names could possibly make it to the list.

He also said that the US believes in the sincere efforts of the Macedonian government to implement reforms and therefore its support will not stop.

Mitkoski assessed the meeting with the US diplomat as productive. He assured that the government is working on reforms that will ensure the rule of law, transparency and efficiency of institutions.

The prime minister did not want to share details on whether there are possible changes in the positions of the new US administration, but said that the US recognises the challenges that North Macedonia faces in becoming a NATO member. | BGNES
