The decision to create a single BRICS currency has not been made, said the head of the Reserve Bank of India Shaktikanta Das, whose words he reported were quoted by the Bloomberg agency.
“The idea of creating a BRICS currency was proposed by one of the BRICS member countries and was discussed, but no decision was taken on this issue,” journalists quoted him as saying.
Observers pointed out that Das’ statement was made after the warning of future US President Donald Trump: if the BRICS countries decide to abandon the US dollar, the US will impose 100 percent tariffs. “We have not taken steps to reduce the risks in our trade, since dependence on one currency can sometimes be problematic due to appreciation or depreciation,” the head of the Reserve Bank of India emphasized.
