Dolly Parton explained why her husband doesn't come to events with her

Dolly Parton has been married for 58 years, but you can probably count on one hand the times you've seen her with her husband.

The legendary star recently appeared on Bunny Zo's "Dumb Blonde" podcast and talked about her husband Carl Dean.

Now the 78-year-old singer claimed her 82-year-old husband refuses to go to award shows with her, CNN reports.

"He loves music, but he's not the least bit interested in being in it. And he told me that right at the beginning," Parton said.

Parton said she begged her husband to go with her to an event in 1967 when she won BMI's Song of the Year award.

"I rented him a tux and asked him to go and he did. But the whole night he was feeling extremely awkward," the singer recounted.

Her husband didn't bother to tell her how much he disliked the experience.

"He said, 'Listen, now I want you to do whatever you want, and I wish you the best, but don't ever make me go to another damn thing like that because I'm not going,'" she recalled. "And he never did."

That didn't stop the couple from having a successful marriage.

Parton attributed their long marriage to "giving each other space," noting in a 2022 interview that she and her husband "aren't with each other all the time."

"He's not in the business, so we have different interests, but we still have the things we like to do together. So I think we were meant to be. He was the one I was supposed to have, and vice versa," she added. | BGNES
