An injury has postponed one of the most anticipated boxing matches of the year

The long-awaited clash between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev will be postponed by several months after Beterbiev suffered a knee injury.

The two Russians were scheduled to face each other in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on June 1 to determine the new absolute world champion in the light heavyweight division (79 kilograms). Beterbiev, 39, suffered a torn meniscus during training, his promoters Top Rank announced.

Beterbiev has 20 knockout wins from 20 fights in the professional ring, while Bivol has also won all 22 of his fights, including against one of the best boxers of the last decade, Canelo Alvarez.

Top Rank announced that the clash between the two will be scheduled for the second half of this year, while Bivol will look for another opponent for the gala evening on June 1, in which viewers will also see the matches Deontay Wilder - Jaley Can and Filip Hergovic - Daniel DuBois. /BGNES
