Elon Musk officially confirms Twitter's transition to "X.com"

Billionaire Elon Musk has announced on the X website that "all core systems" of his social network, formerly called Twitter, "are now enabled" on the "X.com" domain,

The move made his new identity completely official, AFP reported.

Although X's black-and-white logo had appeared on the site since late July, its address remained "Twitter.com"

X.com was the name and website of the online bank founded by Elon Musk in 1999 that later became the online payments service PayPal.

Musk has also used the symbol for the aerospace company SpaceX, the holding company X Corp, which acquired Twitter, the artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI, unveiled in mid-July, and even for the first name of one of his children, a boy named X Æ A-12.

Grok, the first generative artificial intelligence model from the xAI startup that's designed as a version whose responses can contain humorous lines, is available starting Thursday in Europe "for X Premium subscribers," the social network announced.

"Once the European elections are over (6-9 June 2024), we will continue to roll out contextual trends for all users," it added.

Since he bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, Musk has regularly mentioned his nebulous plans to turn it into a multi-faceted super-app, with financial services similar to WeChat in China.

Since the launch of the generative artificial intelligence interface ChatGPT (OpenAI), this technology has been the subject of fierce competition between the giants of the sector, mainly Microsoft and Google, but also Meta (Facebook) and startups such as Anthropic and Mistral AI. / BGNES
