Hakan Fidan: Turkey will invite Israel to accept 1967 borders

If we do not learn from the ongoing tragedy in the Gaza Strip, it could lead to new conflicts in the Palestinian enclave, Turkey's foreign minister warned on May 5.

"If we don't learn from this tragedy and find a solution to the two-state crisis, this won't be the last war in Gaza. We are in for more wars and more tears and suffering," Haqan Fidan told Saudi state television Al Arabiya.

"We must call on Israel to accept the 1967 borders. All Palestinians, not just Hamas, agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders," Fidan told a Riyadh-based channel.

He warned that tensions between regional rivals Iran and Israel could escalate into a major war. "Although the situation seems calm for now, such a possibility always exists," noted Fidan./BGNES
