Speaking to the BBC, Rihanna stated that she "refused to buy maternity clothes" and that she has enjoyed rewriting the rules for fashion since becoming a mother.
"I approached it like everything I do with fashion," she explained. "I just want to execute things the way I want to, with constant variation and personal touch.
"I was like, whatever fits is going to work, and that made me challenge myself to get clever with style," she said.
At the launch celebration of her most recent Puma partnership, she was giving a speech.
Riot Rose Mayers, born in 2023, and RZA Athelaston Mayers, born in 2022, are the multi-Grammy Award winner's kids with rapper A$AP Rocky.
When asked about her fashion choices in the past several years, she replied, "I was able to wear heels with my first pregnancy, but not during my second one because I had a toddler, a tummy, it was cold, and I had a baby bag, so I thought, 'Heels? Perhaps not. I therefore used my creativity in my style.
"After having my second child, I became overly comfortable and started dressing in sweatpants, robes, and pajamas. I'm enjoying my outfits and playing [live] again right now."
The singer continued by saying that she had only recently experienced "a rediscovery" of herself after focusing on raising her two under-two children.
"Being able to allow myself mentally to have that space to approach my closet and create stuff - after you have kids, it does something for you as a woman and as a mum, and that's really important," she said.

She has received accolades for her efforts to shift the conversation surrounding maternity fashion.
Although several of her looks, both before and after her pregnancy, have referenced high fashion, Glamour has called them "accessible" because they feature commonplace attire.
Ashlee Neuman of The Bump told the Guardian in 2022, "She is pushing the concept of what a pregnancy wardrobe can include."
"Up until now, crop tops, low rise jeans and sheer fabrics haven't been a mainstay of maternity wear."
Others have stated that Rihanna has made it "allowed to still enjoy the fashion styles you loved wearing prior to becoming pregnant," among them Venesa Coger of Refinery 29.
The 36-year-old celebrity hasn't released an album in 2016 and has been less active in the music industry lately.
That hasn't stopped her from becoming a self-made billionaire; Forbes estimates her net worth to be $1.4 billion (£1.12 billion).
Her two most successful businesses are the lingerie line Savage x Fenty and the skincare and makeup line Fenty Beauty.
In 2022, she made an appearance on the lead single for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Soundtrack, Lift Me Up, among other songs.
