Bulgaria's accession to the OECD is a top foreign policy priority says Bulgarian Caretaker Government PM Glavchev

The process of Bulgaria's accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) helps us bring national policies into line with the highest global standards. As a future member of the Organization, we will do our best to spread the best practices and policies of the OECD in South East Europe. This was stated by the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dimitar Glavchev, in his speech at the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris, the government press service reported.

Prime Minister Glavchev confirmed as a top foreign policy priority for our country the accession to the OECD, along with our accession to the Eurozone and full membership in the Schengen area, including by land. "Bulgaria will continue to be a stable and consistent partner," Glavchev was emphatic. According to him, the work on all priority policies for the country at the national level and within the EU - education, digitalization, green transition, and circular economy, will provide additional guarantees and impetus for the successful finalization of the negotiations on accession to the OECD.

According to Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, the accession process plays the important role of an accelerator for reforms, a transforming force that Bulgaria currently needs. In addition, Bulgaria's active dialogue with the OECD is a chance to find solutions to improve the effectiveness of public policies. "The process of preparation and the accession of Bulgaria to the OECD will contribute to our efforts to implement better policies for a better life," added the Prime Minister. According to him, it is now particularly important for Bulgaria to ensure favourable conditions for holding fair, transparent and free elections. This is exactly the kind of commitment that the current cabinet has made.

Prime Minister Glavchev noted the consistent and predictable foreign policy of our country, permanently defined by Euro-Atlantic values. In his speech, the prime minister emphasized Russia's war against Ukraine. "We must continue to deepen our cooperation to meet the pressing challenges and opportunities of our time. Together, we must do more to ensure peace, stability and prosperity at the regional and global level, including through our support for Ukraine," the Prime Minister said. According to Glavchev, an integrated approach and joint, coordinated efforts are needed to deal with the new challenges that create obstacles to the development of the global economy and guarantee world peace and security. /BGNES
