Meryl Streep: Nicole Kidman is such a good actress that it's almost "traumatizing"

Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman partnered in the 2002 film "The Hours" and in season 2 of "Big Little Lies."

Soon, Streep had the audience laughing, joking that it's "Very, very hard to constantly be called the greatest actress of your generation."

"What's even harder?" joked Meryl Streep, adding, referring to Kidman, "Oh! It's even harder when you're acting with another person who is also a very, very, very, very great actor. It's real hard."

Streep says working with Kidman in Big Little Lies was the moment she "got close to the enormous gifts that Nicole has, to the seismic bank of emotions that she has locked inside of her, and to her resilience in her quest to be a true artist, and to her discipline."

She quotes Kidman, who on the first day of filming chose to do an emotional scene several times, each time giving an excellent performance.

"I still haven't recovered from that first day, I've never seen anything like it in my life," Streep said. "It was almost traumatic for me because I thought this woman was a Valkyrie. How was she able to endure that? She never relaxes, she never gives up," Streep added. / BGNES
