Ukraine foiled a record number of drone attacks on New Year's Eve

Ukrainian authorities said a record number of Russian drone attacks were thwarted on New Year's Eve.

Kiev said Russian shelling killed one person on New Year's Day in Odessa and another in Kherson.

Russia struck Ukraine in the final days of 2023, killing 39 people in one of the largest attacks on civilian infrastructure of the war.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia had shot down 90 Iranian Shahed drones in the final hours of 2023.

"On New Year's Eve, the defenders of the sky managed to destroy a record number of enemy attack drones - 87 out of 90," the Air Force announced.

Moscow has also fired missiles into the northeastern region of Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporozhye in the south.

Drone strikes also targeted Lviv near the Polish border.

Meanwhile, Russia reported Ukrainian drone attacks on Belgorod region near the border. /BGNES
