O'Sullivan finishes off Day for a 22nd Crucible quarter-final

Ronnie O'Sullivan has reached his 22nd quarter-final at the World Snooker Championship, traditionally held at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. The Rocket finished off Ryan Day with a 13-7 frame.

After another session ended 5-3 in favor of the seven-time world champion, the score yesterday swelled to 10-6 in favor of O'Sullivan. Today he started with a stolen frame after he converted a black ball. A wonderful 85 points followed, moving Ronnie closer to the bottom eight in the race. Day responded but only made his loss more honorable as a run of 67 points was enough for the classier of the two competitors to move on without too much difficulty.

In contention for a place in the semi-finals, the Rocket will play the winner of the pair of Jack Lisowski - Stuart Bingham, where the 2015 world champion leads 9-7 before the two arrive at the table tonight at 21:00 Bulgarian time. At the same time, John Higgins and Mark Allen finish their match, where the Pistol has the same lead after a streak of four unanswered frames.

As well as O'Sullivan, 2020 finalist Kyren Wilson also secured a place in the quarter-finals after a 13-6 emphatic victory over debutant Joe O'Connor.

In the two clear quarter-final pairings so far, David Gilbert, who dethroned Luca Brecel early on, faces Stephen Maguire, while 2019 world champion Judd Trump faces Welshman Jak Jones. /BGNES
