Runaway army horses injure four people in London

Four people have been rushed to hospital after frightened army horses broke loose during a morning exercise in central London. The animals were galloping through the streets at rush hour, AFP reported.

Photos and videos posted on social media by British news agencies showed two horses running through busy streets, dodging buses, taxis, and other road users

Both horses were wearing saddles and bridles, with one apparently covered in blood on its chest and front legs.

The British capital is home to the stables of a number of prestigious Army cavalry regiments, and horses are a common sight around the government buildings of Whitehall, Buckingham Palace, The Mall and in nearby Hyde Park.

The London Ambulance Service said it was called at 07:25 GMT to a report of a man being thrown from a horse on Buckingham Palace Road.

No details of the injured people or the exact circumstances of their injuries were given.

The driver of a Mercedes car said he was waiting outside a hotel on Buckingham Palace Road when he felt something crash into his car.

He said he saw three or four horses near the vehicle and that an army rider was thrown out and injured.

One of the horses reportedly crashed into a parked double-decker tour bus and smashed the windshield.

One of the passengers shared a video on the social network X showing a black and white horse being chased by a black vehicle.

Initially, up to 7 horses escaped and police worked with the army to get them back.

The Army reported that "several military work horses escaped during a routine exercise this morning."

"All the horses have now been found and returned to camp. Several personnel and horses were injured and are receiving necessary medical attention," the statement said. /BGNES
